Paris, im Frühling. Suzanne (Suzanne Lindon) ist 16 Jahre alt, und ihre gleichaltrigen Freunde langweilen sie. Der Smalltalk, den die Jugendlichen im Café halten, interessiert sie nicht. Zu ihrer Familie hat sie ein recht herzliches Verhältnis, der Vater (Frédéric Pierrot) grummelt über seine Meetings, die er hat, die Mutter (Florence Viala) geht zur Arbeit und ihre ältere Schwester scheint derzeit lebenslustiger zu sein, als die gedankenversunkene Suzanne. Sie leben in einer stilvoll eingerichteten Wohnung in Montmartre. Eines Tages beschließt sie, auf die Party einer Freundin zu gehen, obwohl das sonst nicht so ihr Fall ist. Aber naja, auch dieses Mal, kann sie dem oberflächlichen Gerede über die Jungs, dem Biertrinken und der Tanzerei nicht so richtig viel abgewinnen. Was allerdings durchaus ihr Interesse weckt, ist ein, naja, etwas älterer Mann (Arnaud Valois), Mitte dreißig, der ihr immer wieder vor einem kleinen Theater in der Nähe ihrer Wohnung aufgefallen ist. Sie beobachtet ihn, sieht dass er einen kaputten Motorroller hat, erfährt, dass er Raphaël heißt und Schauspieler in dem kleinen Theater ist. Beinahe ist sie etwas besessen von ihm, sie interessiert sich zum Beispiel dafür, dass er gerne Brötchen mit Erdbeermarmelade isst…
Und eines Tages schleicht sie in das Theater, versteckt sich dort und schaut bei einer Probe zu. Raphaël ist genervt von den Regieanweisungen seines Regisseurs. Er rebelliert und verlässt das Theater. Und dann begegnen sich Suzanne und Raphaël vor dem Theater und kommen ins Gespräch. Von der ersten Sekunde an scheinen sie voneinander fasziniert zu sein. Sie erfährt, dass er 35 ist, er erfährt, dass sie 16 ist. Suzanne stellt sich vor, ihm näher zu kommen und versucht sich über ihre Wirkung auf ihn bewusst zu werden, was sie anziehen soll, damit sie auf ihn wirkt, wie sie sich schminken soll, worüber sie reden soll. Das alles ist neu für sie, und sie muss sich erst ausprobieren.
Schließlich lädt Raphaël Suzanne zum Frühstück morgens vor der Schule ein. Strahlend vor Glück tanzt sie durch die Straßen Montmartres – eine kurze, gut gelaunte Musicalszene. Im Café, beim Frühstück setzt er ihr Kopfhörer auf und spielt ihr Vivaldis „Stabat Mater“ vor, zu dem die beiden im Sitzen tanzen – eine weitere kleine Musicalszene. Sie schweben, tanzen, lassen sich durch Montmartre treiben, verbringen viel Zeit miteinander. Suzanne probiert sich aus in der Lebenswelt einer Heranwachsenden. Der Altersunterschied zwischen den beiden scheint keine Rolle zu spielen. Doch dann bekommt sie Zweifel…
SEIZE PRINTEMPS (deutsch: FRÜHLING IN PARIS) ist das Regiedebüt der jungen, 21-jährigen Suzanne Lindon, die auch das Drehbuch schrieb und die Hauptrolle spielt. Die gebürtige Pariserin entstammt einem Schauspielerhaushalt, ihre Mutter ist Sandrine Kiberlain (9 MOIS FERME), ihr Vater Vincent Lindon (RODIN). Bis auf eine kleine Rolle in einem Kurzfilm ihrer Mutter ist SEIZE PRINTEMPS in jeglicher Hinsicht ein Debütfilm Suzanne Lindons. Mit 15 besuchte sie das Lycée Henri IV und begann, am Drehbuch zu SEIZE PRINTEMPS zu schreiben. Im Jahr 2019 begann sie an der „Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs“ in Paris zu studieren und begann mit den Vorbereitungen zu SEIZE PRINTEMPS.
Der Film ist – Gott sei Dank – kein fertiges, reifes Werk, sondern eine kleine, behutsame, wundervolle Etüde, ein Erstlingswerk, das vieles erhoffen lässt. Und man wünscht sich vor allem, dass Suzanne Lindon die Leichtigkeit dieses Films behält. Man wünscht sich, mehr von ihr zu sehen zu bekommen, aber man will ihr auch Zeit lassen. Alles in allem ist das wirklich sehr gelungen, es macht einem Freude, der Regiearbeit, aber auch ihrem Schauspielen zuzusehen. Dem Film wohnt eine Glaubwürdigkeit inne, die er eben deshalb hat, weil Suzanne Lindon von ihrer eigenen Lebenswirklichkeit erzählt, von ihrem eigenen Umfeld, von der Jugend, die kaum hinter ihr liegt. „Ich hätte den Film nicht machen können, ohne selbst mitzuspielen; aber ich hätte auch nicht spielen können, wenn ich nicht selbst Regie geführt hätte. Die Geschichte und der Charakter von Suzanne sind für mich etwas sehr Persönliches; zu persönlich um es jemanden anderen machen zu lassen“, sagt sie. Und man ist der Regisseurin Suzanne Lindon dankbar, dass sie sich mit dramaturgischen Finessen zurückgehalten hat und nicht den Verlockungen dramatischer Wendungen erlegen ist.
Über ihre Film-Suzanne sag sie: „Suzanne ist zwar naiv, weil sie noch sehr jung ist, aber sie hat keine Angst davor zu sagen was sie will oder sie selbst zu sein, wenn sie mit Raphael zusammen ist. Sie ist keine Verführerin, sie verführt, ohne sich dessen bewusst zu sein. Sie bekommt was sie möchte, weil sie wie besessen von ihm ist. Sie fantasiert von ihm und ist so gefesselt von ihm, dass es für sie eine Notwendigkeit wird, ihn zu treffen.“
SEIZE PRINTEMPS gehörte zur Cannes-Auswahl 2020 und war beim Internationalen Filmfestival Toronto 2020 zu sehen. Vielleicht ist es der richtige Film für die Zeit der baldigen Wiedereröffnung der Kinos, in der zumindest ich mir eine kleine Portion Eskapismus wünsche, kleine, undramatische Alltagsgeschichten, die ein wohliges Gefühl hinterlassen und mich von der nächsten Parisreise träumen zu lassen.
Trivia:
An der Wand in ihrem Zimmer hängt ein Bambi-Filmplakat, vielleicht eines der letzten Relikte von Suzannes Kindheit.
Raphael spielt in dem Theater Erastes. Erastes war im antiken Griechenland der erwachsene Partner in einer Liebesbeziehung zu einem Jugendlichen. Raphaels Regisseur erläutert ihm, dass er den Erastes reifer spielen müsse.
Im Theater läuft Strindbergs Fräulein Julie.
In Suzannes Zimmer hängt ein Filmplakat eines Films namens „Suzanne“ von Maurice Pialat, hinter dem sich der Film „À nos amours“ von Pialat verbirgt, der 1983 in die französischen Kinos kam und 1984 auf der Berlinale lief. Die Suzanne des Films ist ebenfalls 16 Jahre alt, sie wird gespielt von Sandrine Bonnaire.

PARIS&LOVE: About Suzanne Lindons debut movie SEIZE PRINTEMPS
Paris, in spring. Suzanne (Suzanne Lindon) is 16 years old and she is bored with friends of the same age. She is not interested in the small talk the young people have in the café. She has a very warm relationship with her family, the father (Frédéric Pierrot) grumbles about the meetings he has, the mother (Florence Viala) goes to work and her older sister currently seems more fun-loving than the lost Suzanne. They live in a stylishly furnished apartment in Montmartre. One day she decides to go to a friend’s party, although that is not usually her case. But well, this time too, she doesn’t really like the superficial talk about the boys, drinking beer and dancing.
What arouses her interest, however, is a, well, somewhat older man (Arnaud Valois), in his mid-thirties, whom she noticed again and again in front of a small theater near her apartment. She watches him, sees that he has a broken scooter, finds out that his name is Raphaël and that he is an actor in the small theater. She is almost obsessed with him, for example, she is interested in the fact that he likes to eat bread rolls with strawberry jam…
And one day she sneaks into the theater, hides there and watches a rehearsal. Raphaël is annoyed by the stage directions from his director. He rebels and leaves the theater. And then Suzanne and Raphaël meet in front of the theater and start talking. From the first second they seem to be fascinated by each other. She finds out he’s 35, he finds out she’s 16. Suzanne imagines getting closer to him and tries to become aware of her effect on him, what she should wear, how she should put on make-up, what she should talk about. This is all new to her and she has to try it out first.
Finally, Raphaël invites Suzanne to breakfast in the morning before school. Radiant with happiness, she dances through the streets of Montmartre – a short, good-humored musical scene. In the café, at breakfast, he hands her headphones and plays Vivaldi’s “Stabat Mater” to her, to which the two dance while seated – another small musical scene. They float, dance, drift through Montmartre, spend a lot of time together. Suzanne tries herself out in the world of an adolescent. The age difference between the two doesn’t seem to matter. But then she begins to be in doubt…
SEIZE PRINTEMPS (German: FRÜHLING IN PARIS) is the directorial debut of the young, 21-year-old Suzanne Lindon, who also wrote the screenplay and plays the leading role. Born in Paris, she comes from an actor’s household, her mother is Sandrine Kiberlain (9 MOIS FERME), her father Vincent Lindon (RODIN). With the exception of a small role in a short film by her mother, SEIZE PRINTEMPS is in every respect a debut film by Suzanne Lindon. At 15 she attended the Lycée Henri IV and began writing the script for SEIZE PRINTEMPS. In 2019 she began to study at the “Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs” in Paris and began preparing for SEIZE PRINTEMPS.
The film is – thank God – not a finished, mature work, but a small, cautious, wonderful etude, a first work that gives rise to many hopes. And most of all, you want Suzanne Lindon to keep the lightness of this film. You wish to see more of her, but you also want to give her time. All in all, it is really very convincing, it is a pleasure to watch the directing work, but also her acting. The film has an inherent credibility that it has precisely because Suzanne Lindon tells of the reality of her own life, of her own environment, of the youth that is barely behind her. “I couldn’t have made the film without acting myself; but I wouldn’t have been able to act if I hadn’t directed it myself. The story and character of Suzanne are very personal to me; too personal to let someone else do it,” she says. And we are grateful to the director Suzanne Lindon for holding back with dramaturgical finesse and not succumbing to the lure of dramatic twists and turns.
About her film-Suzanne she says: “Suzanne is naive because she is still very young, but she is not afraid to say what she wants or to be herself when she is with Raphael. She is not a seductress, she seduces without being aware of it. She gets what she wants because she’s obsessed with him. She fantasizes about him and is so captivated by him that it becomes a necessity for her to meet him.“
SEIZE PRINTEMPS was part of the Cannes 2020 selection and was shown at the 2020 Toronto International Film Festival. Perhaps it is the right film for the time when the cinemas are about to reopen, in which at least I would like to see a small portion of escapism, small, undramatic everyday stories that leave a pleasant feeling and make me dream of my next trip to Paris.
Trivia:
A Bambi movie poster hangs on the wall in her room, perhaps one of the last relics of Suzanne’s childhood.
Raphael plays Erastes in the theater. Erastes was the adult partner in a love affair with a young person in ancient Greece. Raphael’s director explains to him that he has to play Erastes more mature.
Strindberg’s Miss Julie is in the theater.
In Suzanne’s room there is a poster for a film called “Suzanne” by Maurice Pialat, which is the film “À nos amours” by Pialat, which was released in French cinemas in 1983 and screened at the 1984 Berlinale. The film’s Suzanne is also 16 years old, played by Sandrine Bonnaire.
